Garden Pests

Garden pests are the common type organisms found in the garden plants. They may cause some harmful diseases in the plants. These pests are unavoidable. However, some of the insects may be harmless with some value. Ranging from aphids to slugs are some of the infective pests causing damage and diseases in the garden. There are numerous types of pests, which are a part of the nature, however there are some controlling measures that will help you to get rid of these pests. Garden Pests

Some pests may severely infect the plants of your garden resulting in damage to the plants, vegetables, leaves and flowers. It is better to use natural or organic and non-toxic pest controlling spray rather than chemical ones. Chemical sprays cause environmental pollution and are harmful to other wildlife.

Following are some of the organic controlling measures of garden pests; the method of encouraging natural predation for a particular pest.

  • Picking up the infective pest by hand or water spraying are some of the initial processes that can be applied in controlling pests of garden. If these methods are not seemed to be effective, it is useful to apply organic spray to deter the pests.
  • Perfume is used in many natural sprays to repel the pests or else oil can be used to suffocate the insect or pest having soft body. Always be careful that these organic sprays do not harm any beneficial insect like bees, ladybug, etc.
  • Use of pepper and garlic may repel the pests and reduce the efficiency of the insects to feed on the plants; the oil kills the aphids, ants and worms by suffocating them. Ingredients needed to prepare the spray are 10 garlic cloves, one-tablespoon oil, 8 pieces of hot chilli peppers, two pints water and half-teaspoon dish washing soap. Now chop the pepper and garlic cloves and mix with water. Keep the mixture for overnight. Then strain and put soap and oil to the mixture. Now the mixture is ready for application in the garden to control the pests.
  • Use of sage with thyme and lavender is a good controlling method for the destructive organisms in the garden. As you see, there are various ways of controlling these pests.
