Mosses

Mosses are the amazing plants belonging to versatile plant groups. These bouncy plants range from the microscopic growths in soil to the shady carpets of an inch or two in length. They can grow successfully in all kinds of habitat from water streams to the deserts. These plants are mostly seen in the dense, deep forests and the caves. These plants easily grow in any environmental conditions where the other plants cannot. The carpets of these plants give stunning look to the area where they are grown. These plants can be used for the purpose of creating a garden, but mostly they grow themselves in the suitable areas. Mosses

The varieties of forms of mosses are interesting to see. They are eye-catching and make the people indulge in watching them. At the beginning stage, all the moss plants look same, but they explore their different forms after some period.

Usually mosses consist of stems not thicker than a hair. These stems are covered densely with leaves 1/16 to 1/8 inch in length. Moss stem produces branches. A green thick carpet is formed on the ground by many mosses grown together. These carpets cover the area few feet in diameter. These small plants are quite sensitive to the air pollution.

Moss is one of the few plants that can survive happily in harsh coldness. Mosses are the non-flowering plants simple in terms of evolution as compared to the flowering plants. Although these are non-flowering plants, some species produce green shoots, which appear like small flower heads. These shoots carry the male reproductive organs. They have very less organized structures similar as the plants like dandelions or daisies.

Most of these plants love to grow in the moist and shaded areas. While finding these plants, you can look for them on the shaded rocks or old logs. You can find these plants beneath the shrubbery around your house. Most of the backyard mosses are shorter than an inch of length and often smaller. The larger varieties of these plants grow usually in the cloud forests and rainforests.

The reproductive parts of this plant consist mainly of the capsules and stalks. These stalks and capsules appear only during few months of year. The capsules are pod-like and green whereas stalk is the maroon-colored stem, which connects the capsule above and green plant below.

Life cycle: A moss belongs to the species of a plant called phylum Bryophyta. Actually, a group of mosses is collectively called as Bryophytes. The life cycle of this plant is characterized by alternative generations. The beginning deployed generation is known as sporophyte, which is followed by the haploid generation, termed gametophyte. This gametophyte generation is followed by the next sporophyte generation.

Mosses are the small plants with few inches of height, sometimes can be too tiny or microscopic. These are the non-flowering green plants having excellent visual appeal. They attract people with their awesome look. These are easy to maintain plants as they can grow easily in any type of climate. The people love these plants because of their easy growing habit and beauty.
